The mutations that enable powers are physical, but the power exists beyond their bodies as well. I can reach into that space and use those powers.

Gaia Soren-Ladris

The Power refers to the supernatural abilities displayed by several of the teenage residents of Perdido Beach.

The Power manifests itself in several abilities that the teenagers handle in different ways. Using the Power slowly exhausts the user, but this is usually nearly imperceptible (with the exceptions of Enhanced Speed and Shockwave Projection). The most common exhibited so far is teleportation, shown by Taylor, Albert's Cat, an unnamed monkey outside the FAYZ, Little Pete, and Emily, though each of their teleportation abilities are slightly different.

Kids gained powers by the combination of radiation exposure and the alien virus seeping into the local water supply, reacting with seemingly random DNA to create powers. An estimated 30 children developed a Power before the FAYZ began and many more developed a Power after the events occurred causing the FAYZ barrier to appear.

Jack brought to the attention of the Coates kids that power abilities seem to be focused almost exclusively through the hands. (This is however not always the case; Jill's power is focused through her tongue/voice although she is one of the very few exceptions.) As a result of this observation, Caine had kids in Coates Academy he did not trust have their hands encased in cement (a process they termed "plastering") in order to stop them from rebelling.

Although not shown below, it can be assumed that the Gaiaphage and creatures possessed in a similar way to Gaia Soren-Ladris, would have had access to all powers as long as the mutated individual was alive. During the FAYZ powers worked as a two-sided affair, requiring both the Gaiaphage and the person to be alive (or at least in a state of animation for Drake Merwin). Should the Gaiaphage or person die, the power is lost for both. An example of this happening is when Gaia kills Brianna and then attempts to use the power of enhanced speed, she finds herself unable to use it thereby realizing how careful she must be to reach her goal.

In Light, Lana mentions to Astrid that each mutant has a different power. This isn't the case at the start of the series, as many kids (such as Sam and Bette or Bug and the unnamed Coates girl) are seen to have almost identical powers. Michael Grant has stated that this is explained as a coincidence resulting from a random process.[1]

As stated by Natalie Green during Monster, over Fifty-one out of the Hundred Thirty Two Kids who survived being trapped in the FAYZ indeed up developing a supernatural power. However a majority of them only ended up developing a very minor ability and only nineteen developed major powers.

Power levels[]

Diana invented a power level system that ranges from one to four bars. The higher the bar, the stronger the power. The idea of using bars is taken from the bars used to indicate signal strength on a mobile phone.

Exhibited Powers[]

Power Bars Users Description
Telekinesis 4 Caine Soren

Little Pete

The ability to move objects with the mind (often further focused by the hands). Maximum object mass depends on range (decreasing as distance increases) but is extreme (on the order of many tons) at close range. This ability has a maximum range that varies slightly by the power holder but is typically about 80 to 100 feet.
Teleportation 3-4 Pete Ellison
Taylor
Albert's Cat
Unknown Chimpanzee
The ability to instantaneously move from one place to the other without traveling the distance between. The user can typically teleport by just thinking of the place they want to be but are limited to places they have been to before. Inclusion ability depends on the power holder (Taylor can teleport herself, her clothing, and small objects but Pete can easily transport many people extreme distances.) Actual distance range also greatly depends on the power holder (Taylor can go up to a few miles whereas Pete's distance is theoretically limitless).
Light Projection 1-4 Sam Temple
Bette
Unnamed Coates Boy
Little Pete
The ability to emit ultra-high energy light rays from the hands. The intensity of the light rays can be controlled ranging from a gentle glow (such as when Sam creates "Sammy Suns") to nearly immeasurable (as demonstrated by Sam, more than intense enough to quickly melt rock). For most power holders, the light rays can also be formed into a persisting levitating orb (colloquially termed "Sammy Suns" in the FAYZ). The light is also as concussive as it is visually and thermally intense. The color of the emitted light varies by power holder (Sam's light is green or white whereas Pete's light can be blue, red, or purple.)
Fire-Starting Unknown Unnamed Fire Starter The ability to emit fire from the hands, usually in liquid or gelatinous form.
Enhanced Speed 3 Brianna Berenson The ability to move at speeds not possible for a normal human with all parts of the body. The user cannot be harmed from doing this (as seen with Brianna, her joints are not damaged as she uses the power). The power holder is more susceptible to exhaustion with this power compared to most other powers; this is especially evident when not eating enough to compensate for the energy usage.
Gravity Suspension 3 Dekka Talent The ability to suspend gravity in a given area as directed by the hands. This power causes objects in the affected area to rise from the ground in a circular radius of usually about 10 feet. The extent to which objects can rise is limitless (unless otherwise impeded) as long as the power remains focused in that same area. Intensity of the suspension can also be controlled (as seen by Dekka, ranging from very slight reduction in weight to complete and total weightlessness).
Power Reading 2 Diana Ladris The ability to read the power level of other individuals who possess the power by using the hands to contact the individual being read. Intensity of the power being read is typically described as being like a cell phone bar system. Notably, this power lacks the ability to read what the actual power is that the person being read holds (only its intensity/strength).
Camouflage 2 Bug
Unnamed Coates Girl
The ability to change color and 'blend in' with the background of an area, becoming quasi-invisible. The power is typically activated by sweeping the hands over the body. The user can still be seen if the seer knows what they are looking for and where the user is; this is made easier when the user is moving.
Shockwave Projection 3 Andrew The ability to emit sonic waves from the hands. The waves carry extreme power - often capable of shattering concrete and surpassing the sound barrier which inflicts pain on those within audible distance. Intensity of the waves is only slightly controllable. Unlike most other powers, this power rapidly consumes energy from the user.
Enhanced Strength 2 Jack Enhanced strength gifts the user incredible strength in all parts of the body, allowing them to do super-human things like leap great distances, resist being choked, and lift incredible weights.
Heat Projection Unknown Hunter Lefkowitz The ability to emit heat waves from the hands. Intensity of the waves appears to be not directly controllable (either "on" or "off" when used). The distance the waves can travel depends on the power holder but is typically about 15 to 20 feet. The power holder is protected from their own heat wave projections (as evident when Hunter fails to kill the bugs inside him).
Dream Viewing 3 Orsay Pettijohn The ability to view the dreams and subconsciousness of a nearby person. The person having their subconscious viewed must be sleeping and within the range limit of the power. (Range limits depend on the power holder but can theoretically be up to several hundreds of feet.) A special note about this power is that the viewer (power holder) has an active position in the subconscious of the person being viewed (as seen when Orsay views another person's dream, they are able to see her in that dream).
Immortality Unknown Brittney Donegal
Drake Merwin
The ability to stay alive so long as part of the body remains intact. The gaiaphage gifted Drake this ability, but Brittney naturally has it.
Healing Unknown Lana Arwen Lazar The ability to heal almost any injury by way of the hands. This ability is typically fairly slow (taking several hours or even days for the most extreme trauma) and requires energy from the power holder. The power is not generally capable of healing extremely complex trauma (as seen when Lana fails to heal Hunter's brain damage) or injury resulting from disease (as seen in Lana's inability to heal side-effects of the Supernatural Death Cough). When organs are destroyed and a regrowth is attempted, the creation is often bizarre and unexpected (as seen when Lana tries to heal Drake's arm, giving him a whip hand or when she tries to heal Cigar's eyes but creates aura-reading "BB like" eyes).
Density Alteration Unknown Duck Zhang The ability to control one's body density at will. This gives the power holder the ability to float in midair or sink through the ground. Inexperienced users find that this is controlled by their emotional state.
Illusion Creation 3 Penny The ability to create illusions in the minds of others, typically directed by the hands. The illusions created, including exactly what is seen and how it interacts with the person being subjected to the power, are entirely controllable by the power holder.(Their victim can also feel the illusions if the power holder is very good with their powers) Even if the victim is aware the illusions are not real, they are unable to suppress or otherwise control their reaction to them.
Reality Manipulation Unknown Little Pete The ability to alter reality, such as creating the FAYZ, altering DNA, and battling the Gaiaphage on another plane of reality.
Creation Unknown Little Pete
The Gaiaphage
The ability to bring creatures from one's mind into real-life, as Little Pete does in Hunger and Plague and as the Gaiaphage has done several times.
Siren Singing Unknown Jill The ability to melodically hypnotize anyone within audible range of the power holder when they sing. While the power holder is singing, those within listening range are hypnotized and unable to interact with the world around them. The power holder can also influence action based on the exact lyrics of their song. (For example, if the user sings about suicide, the listeners will attempt suicide when the user stops singing for a short period of time.)
Judgment 1 Virtue Brattle-Chance Sanjit mentioned that he thought Virtue had the power to judge a person's character, which Virtue demonstrated on Caine, Penny, Diana and Bug. This possibly extends to judging a situation, which Virtue is also seen to do.
Lie Detection Unknown Toto The ability to determine if a statement a person makes (verbal or otherwise) is the truth or a lie. An extension of this power also exists where, when the speaker is identified as having lied, the power holder can sometimes determine what the speaker meant to say if they were being intentionally misleading or obfuscating. Accuracy of the power is limited by both the power holder and the speaker in that the power holder may incorrectly identify a statement as true or false based on the belief of the speaker (if the speaker believes the statement is true, even if it is not, the power holder may incorrectly report it as being true).
Quantum Tunneling Unknown Darla The ability to walk through walls, and presumably other solid objects.
Age Acceleration 2-3 Gaia Soren-Ladris Diana and Caine's child, Gaia, grew rapidly, both in the womb and after she was born. As the Gaiaphage had no control over the baby when she was in the womb, this may be the baby's own ability before the Gaiaphage possesses her.
Mimicry Unknown Gaia Soren-Ladris
The Gaiaphage
Most likely due to the Gaiaphage being the cause for the powers, Gaia was able to use the power of any living human as long as she knew about them, as was the Gaiaphage.
Plant Growth Acceleration Unknown Sinder The ability to accelerate the growth of plants by way of contact with the hands. The power may or may not work to bring plants back to life (this is never finitely confirmed).
Glowing Unknown Unnamed boy The ability to fluoresce any part of the body at will.
Mind Control Unknown The Gaiaphage
Nerezza
The ability to control another's mind. This can be used to read thoughts or give tremendous pain. However, this only works if the user has come into contact with the victim, which happens if the victim enters the user's "range". However, using this power is risky, as the victim can reverse it if they are mentally strong enough. Caine also pretended he had this power at the end of Light, but it was in reality never possessed by him.
Regeneration Unknown Brittney Donegal
Drake Merwin
The gaiaphage used Lana's healing power to gift Brittney and Drake the ability of regeneration. This is much faster than healing and is also automatic.
Superhuman Agility Unknown Frederico Enhanced agility, giving the user the ability to leap long distances, flip, and hang from walls and ceilings with ease, as well as giving cat-like reflexes.
Space Warping Unknown Emily The ability to alter space. The user can use this to teleport anything, but they can also change the location and shape of other things, such as land. The extent of this ability is unknown.
unknown 1 Mickey In hunger, Diana read mickey during the battle of the power plant and found he was a one bar, although his power was never found out.

Monster Trilogy Powers[]

The powers in the Monster trilogy heavily differ from the powers in the original series. They are obtained by consuming some of one of the ASO rocks. The more consumed, the more powerful you become. The powers are known as "morphs", as the person will turn into a different creature, which will have powers of its own on some occasions. All morphers except Francis are able to hear the voices of the Dark Watchers in their heads when they morph.

Character Morph
Al He has the ability to transform into a rhinoceros like creature with his own head and three antler-like horns.
Armo (Aristotle Adamo) He has the ability to transform into a large polar bear. He has increased strength, agility, and durability in this form.
Bob He has the ability to transform into a swarm of insects. This allows him to fly, send parts of his swarm away on their own, sink into the earth, see through all of the insects' eyes, and infect victims with a fatal sickness that causes continual torment.
Cruz Her morph enables her to alter her appearance while maintaining her original body. She also has the ability to blend into her surroundings.
Dekka Talent She has the ability to transform into a cat-like monster with snakes for hair. Anyone who threatens her gets injected with a lethal venom by the snakes. She can also shred anything in her path just with her voice.
Dillon Poe He has the ability to transform into a snake-like creature with the ability to command people with his voice. People who see him don't seem to realise he's in morph and describe him as gorgeous.
Francis Specter She has the ability to transform into a four-dimensional version of herself that can pass through three-dimensional objects. She has the ability to move herself and others into a fourth-dimensional version of the world, although they are unable to return to the third dimension like Francis, leaving them imprisoned there. She is the only Morpher who is immune to the Dark Watchers' abilities.
Justin He can change into a large creature with a long blue coral sword arm, chitin armour, a lobster pincer for a left arm, and talon feet that resemble those of a dinosaur. Due to his strength, he can jump incredibly high while in morph.
Malik Tenerife He can morph into a version of himself that resembles how he recalls himself, although it isn't always true. For example, his back is hazy because he rarely sees or remembers how it appears. He may syphon his own incredible ammounts of pain onto other individuals in this form.
Frank He has the ability to morph into any morpher he encounters, mimicking their power and morph form.
Sean Macbeth He has the ability to transform into a 20 foot long terrifying version of the hungry caterpillar, complete with razor-sharp teeth, purple fuzzy antennae, yellow oval eyes, and a red misshapen head. He possesses the capacity to consume anything that crosses his path.
Shade Darby She has the ability to transform into a human-sized flea-like monster capable of running faster than the speed of sound and leaping tremendous distances. While in morph, she also has strong chitin armour.
Simone Markovic Because she has a lot of little bee wings all over her body except for her face and throat, her morph allows her to fly. Because of all of the wings, she appears blue in morph.
Thomas Peaks he can transform into a stone magma beast with a lizard like face that spews and sprays liquid fire/napalm, standing 30-40 feet tall. Due to his stature, his morph grants him immense strength.
Carl Can morph into a strong creature with four long legs that are as wide as tree trunks and has long arms with titanium claws.
Vincent Vu He can morph into an extremely large starfish-like creature that can break its own limbs off. These limbs do Vincent's bidding and can overtake a person. he also has a belt of tentacles like drakes but thinner, longer and has a corrosive poison tip
Sam Temple Can morph to look shiny as if he had just been dipped in melted plastic and can create invincible, transparent orbs that resemble the FAYZ dome, they can be almost any size and cut things in half.
Astrid Ellison She can morph into a stronger, bigger version of herself that has impenetrable skin.
Unknown woman She can morph into a turtle that has a purplish shell.
Unknown man He can morph into a large hawk-like creature. and has big yellow eyes.
Unknown girl She can morph into a creature with fish scales and can hover.
Unknown man Can become translucent (not transparent), showing his organs.
Unknown man Can morph to look like Jesus. (which means he is not Jesus)
Unknown man He can morph to have awkwardly large bat wings capable of flight.
Unknown man Can morph into a shaggy 7-foot-tall creature with saber-toothed tiger fangs.
Unknown woman Can morph into a giant version of her self which her size is unestimated. morphing causes her to be nude.
